2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone is an inhibitor of respiration in animals and bacteria. It binds at the quinone reduction site of succinate:ubiquinone oxidoreductase, preventing ubiquinone from binding. It is also a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and alpha (PPARα/γ) agonist.
