Mecamylamine is widely used as a broad-spectrum antagonist of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in basic nicotine research. It has been reported to be effective as an aid to smoking cessation and may also be of use in various nicotine-responsive, neuropsychiatric disorders.
