4-Methylumbelliferone is a hyaluronic acid biosynthesis inhibitor with antitumoral and antimetastatic effects. It also selectively inhibits human carbonic anhydrase IX and XII with KI of 32.1 and 5.8 nM, respectively. 4-Methylumbelliferone also inhibits testosterone 17-beta-dehydrogenase 3 and estradiol 17-beta-dehydrogenase, IC50=0.9µM.
